Rookie Mistakes in Doing Markets

I have a bit of reflection from my market experience so let me share some newbie booboos I hope not to make again. It is a constant process to be organised.

1 | USING BOXES WITHOUT HANDLES
My goal is to make less trips from car to stall, so I chose the cardboard boxes for more room. Well, after 2 markets, I am getting tubs. I care more about my back.

2 | NO FLOAT
I thought no one's paying cash anymore. But it doesn't hurt to be ready for that one unique customer, isn't it?

3 | NOT ENOUGH PRACTICE WITH THE CARD READER
I did a bit of test runs days before and the night before, just to be sure it is seamless. If it doesn't work, the backup is my QR code for my Paypal account and/or website. Also, that's why there is a float. Geez.

4 | LIMITED POWER OR NO BACKUP BATTERIES
There is limited power in the market. That's a given. So bring a power bank aside from making sure all gadgets are fully charged.

5 | BRINGING THE CARD READER DURING TOILET BREAKS
I trust my neighbor stalls. They were kind enough to watch my spot. How can they receive payment if I got the terminal in my pocket while I pee?

6 | FORGOT TO BRING A CHAIR
I have great respect to retail workers. I bet they have nice, toned calves.

7 | NOT WEARING COMFORTABLE SHOES
Thank goodness for sneakers. I don't wear them much often though. Now, they are being tested for endurance.

8 | NOT SMILING ENOUGH
Bring on the charm. It never fails.

Regardless of all the hitches, I had to admit IT WAS FUN - engaging with customers and meeting like-minded people in business. I put a lot of limitations on myself in the past. I just need to execute my ideas more. Will never know how it works until it's out there, right?

Thanks again for reading. I will be on another Christmas market, December 17 and 18 at CS square. Will give more updates when it is close to the date. Stay crafty and vibrant.
